Ganesh Tea started in Ghatkopar in 1986 with a straightforward idea: a genuinely strong cup should not be a luxury. Thirty-nine years later the blend has not changed, and neither has the family making it.
The leaf is Assam CTC, chosen for body rather than delicacy — the kind of tea that stands up to milk, sugar and a hard boil, and still tastes like something. It is the cup shopkeepers reorder without being asked, and the one caterers are told not to substitute.

What is CTC tea?
CTC stands for Crush, Tear, Curl — a process that breaks tea leaves into small, uniform granules. Because the leaf is opened up, CTC releases colour and strength quickly, giving a strong, brisk cup in two to three minutes that holds its own against milk and sugar.
Which tea is best for milk chai?
A strong Assam CTC. It brews fast, gives a deep reddish-brown colour, and does not thin out when milk and sugar go in. Orthodox whole-leaf teas are lighter and meant for drinking black, so they get lost in a proper cup of chai.
How much chai patti should I use per cup?
Roughly one level teaspoon, about 2 to 2.5 grams, per cup. Add a little more if you like it kadak. A 250g pack makes around 110 cups, which works out to just over a rupee a cup.
